Why do you like photography?
I don’t even like photography to be honest! I’m always at PA meetups to socialise; to be around like-minded people. I work in a photo lab, so I’m constantly surrounded by photos, photographers, and gear. It’s heaps of fun, which ended up turning my hobby into a job. The only photos I take now are to test out cameras or different kinds of film.

What made you want to be a part of the PA community?
Initially, it was to get me to go shooting and dust off all the cameras, but it’s ended up being a social thing once or twice a month where I get to catch up with mates who I made through the group. There are always the regular people, but it’s always great to see new faces and see them start showing up to walks more regularly.

Which theme did you choose and what was your thought process behind the images?
The theme I chose was nature because, in all honesty, I don’t shoot outdoors a lot. I figured it would get me out of the house, so I planned a bushwalk and blasted through a roll of film. I ended up having to isolate at home because of COVID, so I just walked in circles around my backyard and focussed on some macro photos instead. When shooting colour, I find that I’ll spend hours grading and editing and it just becomes too much work. Generally, the few photos I do shoot are primarily black and white to keep things simpler.
Any advice to those who haven't joined a walk yet? What to expect?
Just show up, everyone is pretty cool and down to earth. Usually it’s just the walk then we all end up at a cafe or pub afterwards. There is always a good mix of people who are there to take some decent photos, or just there to have a chat and catch up with friends.
