Why do you like photography?

Photography is my zen. It allows me to focus and relax, and at the same time get out and explore new places or look at old places in a new way. I was drawn to film photography as a way to slow things down further and feel part of the process. I love how many different cameras are out there and it's so much fun to see what people bring to each meet-up. There's always something weird and new to check out.

What made you want to be a part of the PA community?

I stumbled across a PA photowalk by accident, ironically not long after I had sold all my film gear due to frustration from not really having anyone to share it with. The group was so inclusive and fun, it wasn't long before I was back on the wagon shooting film again! The members are from all walks of life and every meet-up is a chance to learn something new from people excited to share what they know and learn new things.

Which theme did you choose and what was your thought process behind the images?

This series of images came almost by accident! I was on my way home after a morning shooting colour film. I happened to have a single roll of Fomapan 100 in my bag and decided I'd stop on the way and challenge myself to finish the roll as I'd never shot with it before. I chose the theme colour, and wanted to try and capture textures of grime and rust. Luckily I was at Cockatoo Island where this is plentiful!

The images were made on my Pentax 67 & 105mm f/2.4 and was surprised by the results! A great example of why shooting film is so rewarding, being able to try new things, be part of the process and end up with fantastic unique memories.

Any advice to those who want to join the group?

Just rock up to a meet-up or reach out via Instagram! There's nothing to be afraid of, we're all weird nerds in many different ways, but we're definitely not scary! We always have a good time and if you're looking for somewhere to meet new people, chat, hang out and maybe even make some images, we'll have something for you :)
